Having a good quality underlay is integral when selecting a new carpet for your home. Underlays available are as follows:
Sponge Rubber Underlays
Made from a compound mix, which includes synthetic rubber, this type of underlay is chemically blown under heat to give a cellular structure that uses the air within to help give additional underfoot comfort.
High Density PU Foam
Highly compressed foam offers superior comfort and durability. These underlays are lightweight and offer a wealth of benefits including high heat insulation, sound reduction and ‘bounce-back ability’ rating. High-density rebond underlays are resilient to wheeled traffic and are suitable for either stretch or double stick installations in both domestic and commercial enviroments. PU underlays are also environmentally friendly as they are made from recycled materials and are completely recyclable after use thus alleviating the issue of landfill.
AxFelt 65 (from Axminster Carpets)
A dual reinforced felt made from 65% pure wool fibres bonded to a
recycled rubber base providing the perfect combination underlay.
Composition is: Top layer 95% wool fibres, middle layer 50% wool fibres, 50%
other fibres bottom layer recycled rubber crumb base.
